FRIDA GUSTAVSSON - Impeccable street style

This girl certainly knows how to put an outfit together.  How would you guys define her style? It definitely has an edginess to it with a mixture of urban sophisticate and a sort of boho chic. Kinda difficult to put a label on her... which ultimately is great! We love how she mixes things effortlessly. She's not afraid to pair something prim with something unexpected. Man! We can't imagine having a model's life...you have to be on your A-game before and after every show since bloggers are now out in force. For example, almost all of these photos are from Stockholm Streetstyle (an awesome blog that we will definitely highlight sometime). And when you've got great street style, you show up all over the internet. So all power to miss Frida for having some great style. Oh and by the way, if you happen to do a google image search on her, you'll notice that almost everything she wears is pretty covered. Just shows you wear fashion is right now. And lastly, notice the yellow and black pairing in the final picture? We think this is an awesome pairing for fall, meaning, we really think you guys should go and get the Eshakti dress talked about here so we can all wear the same outfit come fall!

ESHAKTI 50% DISCOUNT TO OUR READERS

OK ladies, now is your chance to get this mustard dress (which we still like the best) or anything in their sale (like this one) for 50% off! This isn't a giveaway, this is better because EVERYONE can participate (not just one lucky reader), but only through July 31. Eshakti is having a 40% off sale and they're offering our readers an additional 10% discount on those sale items listed. That takes this dress down from almost $90 (with shipping) to about $45 even (that's including the shipping and adding sleeves costs...we always hate extra costs so we're disclosing the actual amount). But on top of all that, we've got a major secret. So if you follow us via Google Friend Connect (the "Join this Site" button on the right of our blog) and then shoot us an email at DesiandMel at gmail dot com, we'll give you the additional code. Or if you wanna know the secret to get even more off, ask for it in your email and you'll be getting this dress for cheeeeap (and we mean cheap... sorry this one we can't disclose). Happy shopping!

STACKED JEWELRY

It's about time somebody addressed this. Vogue has finally made mention of the "stacking jewelry" trend I'm sure many of you have been seeing lately. And we're here to bring their perceptions to you guys. I love how they talk about Coco's age old rule of looking in the mirror before leaving the house and removing one piece of jewelry. Well, that seems to fly out the window in this regard. But if you want to try this, we suggest you go classy with it. Choose, like they say, to focus in on one part of the body...hands, wrist or neck. Don't go crazy and do all of those. Remember our mantra of Poppy Delevigne and keeping accessories minimal? Well still keep that in mind. On that note of overly accessorizing, you shouldn't be pairing shrugs over tank tops, t-shirts under tank tops, leggings under skirts (dresses are better, but we think leggings, may be losing steam), scarves, big earrings, hair accessories, necklaces, belts etc. You're going to look like a gypsy just walked through the door. The more pieces you have on, the more gypsy you become. We modest dressers need to keep the pieces minimal. Just buy clothing that covers, don't try and make it cover. And when you wanna have fun with accessories, pick an arm. Let's keep it classy! We like how Rachel (from pinkpeonies) does her arms here....

KATE LANPHEAR

Sometimes you need a little of a different "Kate" in your wardrobe. This is Kate Lanphear...the queen of edge/grunge/and all things rocker/chic. She's also otherwise known as the Style Director of Elle Magazine. I thought of her constantly the other day as I was staring at the perfect black leather jacket on a hanger at Forever 21. Seriously, the fit and look were amazing (even the price was perfect at $30!). But I couldn't get myself to take the plunge because of my stupid self-imposed budgeting (all monies...even $30 are to be saved for the extensive home renovation that is almost done in my life. I've come to realize that even a measly $30 can buy pipe, trim or paint). Yet I keep telling myself that the fight is not over. We left town the day after I saw it so it's probably gone by now (perfect things don't stay long). The verdict is still out though. I will let it go when I see it gone.

So here's the thing, just like when we see things from the runway that inspire us, obviously other dressers inspire us and our looks. The second to last look (although the skirt's a bit short) totally inspired this look a while back. Although we wouldn't wear EVERYTHING she's got on, we definitely take away a lot of ideas. In the end, even though I didn't buy the jacket, I did buy a leather studded cuff (bracelet). I've always wanted something to achieve a harder look on my arm and now I actually have one (obviously not as dangerous as her's looks, but still fun).

NEED TO FIND...

OK first off, thank you EVERYONE for the comments on the post below. We're incredibly sorry to put "Anonymous" on the spot, and I hope you know that we weren't offended by the comment at all. We really were just wondering if more people felt the same since it changed the 'look' and 'feel' of the blog when we increased our posts. We enjoy hearing all of your feedback and actually would love it more often! It definitely helps us shape the blog. So here's some of our thoughts on what was said: we would LOVE to give you more street style posts, but seeing as though we are musicians first and foremost, it's just physically impossible to give you nicer pictures every day of what we're wearing. We could snap crazy phone pics of ourselves, but that seems weird to us. Maybe things will change in the future and we'll be able to give you more street style (even from others on the street), but with both of us on separate coasts, we're just glad we can continue as we are. So when we can, we will give you more. Oh and don't think any of your comments are for naught. We definitely hear you!
Lastly, this top! The first image is from Zina at Fashion Vibe and although we haven't been crazy about the patterned pants taking off lately, we are crazy about the peplum top! The second is from Blair at Atlantic-Pacific. And you know what's awesome, evidently it's from H&M! WE MUST FIND IT! We're both on some self-imposed budgeting right now so we're trying to figure out how to get around this at the moment...hmmm. But we can't help thinking how great this top will look with these pants to create this type of look. Wish us luck!
   Oh, and thanks again!

MOTORCYCLE JACKETS

These looks are really just to prepare you for a look we have coming on Monday. You know how much we love our motorcycle jackets. And you know what's so nice about them? Is that they're still going strong through fall. Leather was all over the fall runway (in everything from blazers to skirts...just check this out...let's just say that we're not going to be putting the jackets away any time soon.). It is definitely an edgy season with so much texture thrown in. Here are a couple of looks from Zara, which we think may be starting to prepare us for the roughness of fall. These are looks taken from their Lookbook for June. Pay close attention to the top look...the pairing of rough and sweet (which we've talked about before here), because our look utilizes these elements as well. Thus far we'd say a jacket like this is a pretty cool purchase these days....
(p.s.....if you want some great wide-fitting trousers kinda like these, than you should definitely check out Zara's amazing sale right now on these. We actually think they're better than Melody's!)

FASHION GONE ROGUE

The Jill Sander wool dress up top completely stole our attention the other day. This is from a photo shoot done by Fashion Gone Rogue. They've done quite a few smaller shoots exclusively for their site which are pretty dang cool. This one in particular is sort of a preview of some of the things they were seeing coming down the fall runways. The leg up they have over the hard-core magazines on the stand is that they're a blog able to do these magazine worthy shoots before the other magazines have even had time to pull their looks together. For instance, this was put together back in March right after the February shows. Let's just say their incredibly quick. Don't get us wrong, we're not going to be abandoning Vogue any time soon, but we do really enjoy viewing what they're doing over there! On a side note, we are loving the mustard dress up top. We too have a mustard dress you'll see soon from a company we are getting ready to proudly promote. So keep an eye out!

HEATHER FROM "LATTER DAY STYLE"

_MG_0843sl.jpg

OK, so I don't know if you're like us, but we were just in awe over these little fashion illustrations! Heather over at Latter Day Style is amazing. She contacted us a while back about possibly doing an interview for her blog, but we had no idea she was working on these on the side! When she sent over the questions we have to admit we were pretty impressed. The questions were all so thoughtful and in depth, not only into what makes us tick in our fashion choices, but also some specifics regarding our music and career. Here's just one of the questions she posed (along with our answer)...

I doubt either of you have stay at home kind of
days, but some days being a stay at home mom, I don’t really have anywhere to
go, or anything to dress up for. What is your advice for looking chic on all occasions?

What type of outfit would you wear for a day like that?

Are you kidding me? Everyone has those days. Not to mention many of those days for us are practice days where you know you won't leave the confines of your piano bench. Here's where we can't stress enough to buy nicer clothing that is COMFORTABLE. Sometimes all I want to buy are things that are beautiful on the hanger, and bypass the perfect fitting loose t-shirt just because it seems boring, or less exciting. And yet THAT is what you end up wearing most days. There was a top that both of us bought at Zara for $15 that has been our uniform ever since we bought it. It's so effortless to throw on with almost any pant or skirt. We both wish we had bought 5 more....

We don't want to spoil the rest of the interview, so check it out here. She has quite the talent in illustrating and we're definitely excited to see her blog taking shape. My sister-in-law now even wants to see if she'd do little illustrations of her daughters! Might have to talk to Heather about that one. Regardless, thanks Heather for being so awesome! (and seriously guys, she's the sweetest person ever....)

BLOG HIGHLIGHT - Hedvig from Northern Light

We've been so impressed with Hedvig (originally from Norway, now residing in London) and her blog Northern Light. She's got a really cool mix of class and edge  and you can probably tell we really admire and appreciate when this is done well. It's funny because we've seen her image pop up plenty of times on blogs like Jak & Jil, but never put it together that she had her own blog! So now we get to view the looks straight from her. Yay! Anyway, she's got some great legs, so things can be a bit short at times, but overall we just love her sense of style. We say you should definitely check her out!
