MEMORIAL DAY FASHION

The Thunderbirds
The Crowd
The WWII Mustang (P51)

Is there a better way to celebrate Memorial Day than at an airshow? We think not. The outfit up top is what I partially wore on Saturday. "Partially" because let's just say I was SUPER lucky to have left all of my ski clothes in the car. It was FREEZING and ended up pouring rain in the middle of the show. So luckily my trusty ski coat came in handy. At the very end of the day the sun came back out and my outfit was again visible. The grey motorcycle jacket is an old favorite of mine from H&M, the jeans are an even older favorite of mine from Nordstrom that were so comfortable I finally had to retire them because of the holes (but if you follow us on twitter, you might have seen that I brought them out of retirement because I'm loving their rips as of late).
Apart from fashion, we've always talked about how interesting it is to be a part of a big crowd. How many interesting faces (not to mention clothing) can be found. Since it was pretty dang cold, you'll see lots of blankets and sweatshirts (not to mention the snuggie thrown in there). But I guess it was especially fun to see the way kids reacted to the amazing planes in the sky. There was a sense of pride from parents in bringing their kids to see one of man's greatest feats. And you know what? I was almost on the brink of tears when the music to "Band of Brothers" came over the speakers as the Thunderbirds (pictured up top) landed. I don't often gush patriotism, but sometimes a holiday like memorial day will bring it out. So welcome to the season of the red, white and blue, fireworks, barbecues, sparklers, sprinklers and pools. We're ready!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

CANNES 2012 HIGHLIGHT - Tilda Swinton

Tilda has chosen her go to designer Haider Ackermann in both looks here. She has had quite the history with the designer in looks like this, this and this to show just a few of the myriads. She even showed up with him (which she does quite often) at the Chanel Cruise collection held during the Cannes. We've always admired Tilda's fearless, often menswear inspired, style. She's definitely got a look that no one else in Hollywood has. It's strong and edgy but somehow always "Tilda." It's funny how we can't even look at Ackermann's lines these days and not see Tilda. It definitely has come to define the collections to a certain extent....

We have absolutely loved following the Oscar PR Girl on Pinterest. These are just a few of the pictures that showed up on our boards the other morning and made them beautiful. These are all behind the scenes shots from his Oscar de la Renta's Resort 2013 collection (you can view the whole awesome collection here). It makes us really excited to see what he'll do for Spring 2013 just around the corner. A few things of note...the peplum is coming on strong. We've talked about the peplum being everywhere for fall and now it's showing up in resort. So keep an eye out.  Other things of note is the use of gingham, large florals, and a definite look at the statement earring sneaking back onto the scene. It looks like after all of the rough, edgy fashion seen on the fall runways, we might be getting some more femininity around the corner for spring....

STRIPES WITH ORANGE

We've been feeling ever since the onslaught of all of the ultra formal Cannes looks (along with the Christian Dior and Mohammad Ashi posts), that the blog has been looking pretty dressy lately. So let's throw in another more casual look. This is really an easy look of ours. I'm sure a lot of you have a good striped shirt these days, so just pair it with a few brighter accessories and voila! You may have noticed that we stayed away from a colorful shoe. It would really just be too much for the look. So keep in mind that there is definitely balance in color and accessories. By the way, this little orange bracelet of ours has been pretty fun lately. It has brought in the tiniest bit of color without being overly obtrusive. Also you've seen us pair this scarf before in winter and you've probably guessed by now that it's one of our favorites. Its rich color just adds the perfect bit of something else to an otherwise basic outfit. Also Desirae here has a way of tying scarves that is perfect. I (Melody) on the other hand, do not. I'm pretty sure she slightly ties the bottom and lets the top lie more loose. I'll have to try that next time I'm using a smaller scarf....

THE GOWNS AT CANNES 2012

Naomi Watts in Marchesa
Dianna Kruger in Nina Ricci
Anne Consigny in Alexis Mabille Couture

Cheryl Cole in Stephane Rolland
Jessica Chastain in Gucci (we know it's low cut, but we couldn't resist something so beautiful!)

Festival di Cannes 2012 - Party Vanity Fair Gucci e Life Ball
Li Bingbing and Frida Giannini (Gucci designer) both in Gucci designs
Jane Fonda in Roberto Cavali
 Barbara Palvin in Valentino
Eva Longoria in Alberta Ferreti
Fan Bingbing in Elie Saab
Fan Bingbing in Valentino Couture

So many beautiful gowns have been seen at Cannes this year. Yet, here are the more modest red carpet looks. We'd have to say that Fan Bingbing (who we've posted about before, here, and different from Li Bingbing up top) has been hitting the looks out of the park. I mean seriously? Her other looks worn at the festival are equally as stylish, but they happen to be strapless or too low cut etc. But man! That girl's got some style. Naomi Watts looked incredible in her Marchesa gown as well as Jessica Chastain in Gucci. We definitely have a soft spot for Jessica since she's a fellow class mate of ours, and we think she has looked amazing in every look at Cannes this year. We know the one pictured is low cut, but oh what a beautiful dress! We also absolutely loved Dianne Kruger's Nina Ricci dress. And funny enough Ms. Cosigny's Alexis Mabille Couture dress we have on our pinterest boards here. We also have some looks from Tilda Swinton coming, so stay tuned!
