EAR MUFFS

I have to say, I haven't seen ear muffs in a really long time. If someone, offhand, had tried to convince me of the virtues of the furry accessory, before I saw this girl, I would probably have been skeptical. But then here she is, working the ear muffs like it's the chic-est thing in the world and my mind has been changed. I also really love her ultra thick and lush tube scarf.

RUSSIAN FLAIR

Fur is definitely having a moment right now, but if you feel uncomfortable wearing fur coats or boots then maybe a fur hat is the way to go. Most of this look here is relatively simple - black leggings and boots, tunic and wool coat - but the Russian fur hat styles the whole ensemble up a notch.

GOLD AND PALE NEUTRALS

A drape-y little sweater and some gold jewelry can take a baggy T-shirt a long way. This perfect baggy T is from Roxy. I love different shades of pale neutrals paired together into a hazy mix. With the muted palate the gold jewelry definitely stands out but is totally appropriate for daytime, whereas if the gold was paired with black it would scream evening. The quartz and gold necklace shown here was actually mined in the Kennecott Copper mine in Utah and is sold in the gift shop there. The sunburst necklace is Forever 21.

TRUE GRIT

I am channeling my inner True Grit with this look. I recently saw the film, True Grit, and was so inspired by the clothes and hair Hailee Seinfeld sported on screen that I had to recreate elements of her look up here at Sundance. Hailee wore a long wool overcoat, cinched in at the waist with a thick leather belt, hat, braids and boots. OK, so my version is slightly more urban, but I still like to think there is a bit of Old West fashion in there.

SO CUTE

We think the actress Lindsey Pulsipher looks so cute here. Everything she's wearing gives a sporty chic vibe - the mittens, stripe shirt, green puffy coat, scarf, cross-body bag, knit hat and vintage lace-up booties all combine for a fun outdoor look. I'm always looking for ways to inject more life into winter outerwear and she definitely hit a cool note in Sundance fashion. I really like how she finished the look with red lips. I think I'll do the same with my next sporty outfit..

VINTAGE CAPE

Layering up is key for an interesting winter look. Layering can add color, dimension and texture - all, or most, of which is usually missing in the bundled up depths of January and February. The art of layering is a skill every Modest Girl should take up, as it will take her wardrobe from seemingly limited to limitless. At the Sundance Film Festival this year we wanted to take winter fashion up a notch. Here we have one of our favorite vintage finds - a fur trimmed cape from the 1960's. We decided to layer it up, and dress it down a bit, with a heavy sweater from Urban Outfitters, a nautical cotton top from H&M, boots, from a German shop in Hamburg, and plaid scarf, from a Chinese flea market in Beijing. All the pieces combine for warmth and Sundance style.
