THE DESERT

This look was supposed to be the outfit I wore to the Grotto concert in Moab. But I realized only right before, that going down the river in a speedboat, walking through sand and hiking the rocks to the "first tier" (the natural ledge of rocks in the grotto amphitheater), that maybe this was not the best pick (hence, contributing to my bad packing in that post). So here's the outfit that never got seen, and would've looked a heck of a lot nicer in pictures. By the way, the dress is vintage, glasses are Quetee and everything else you've seen before.

BUSINESS LEISURE

Our title makes you think of leisure suits from the 70s, but seriously we couldn't think of anything that got the point across! (Great, now all we can think of is Randy Quaid walking around the super market in Christmas Vacation. Step away, step away. ) Anyway, this outfit was so obviously inspired by poppy delevigne it's not even funny. We're really liking the loose combo here with the loose T and relaxed fit trousers. This was one of our last late summer looks, but if you throw on a trim or even loose jacket (seen here at Paris Fashion week) it really could take you right into fall. Add some heels and a clutch and you're ready for business...leisure style :)

AUTUMN CASUAL - Military Green

We know it's starting to get a little cooler for shorts, but the weather is still fluctuating all over the country that we're still happy to bring these into fall. For instance, we're going to be in Austin TX next week and it's still definitely warm (which hopefully should justify my packing these shorts, but up until this point the country has definitely gotten cooler). Regardless, this outfit worked well for a drive through the canyon a bit ago. There's nothing like aspen groves in the fall. But let's get to the outfit. So military green. Yeah it's a HUGE trend that started this fall and is now going strong into the spring lines (if you walk into any Zara right now, you'll see that they've picked up on the trend heavily). So we're excited to showcase it in these shorts. Also, we modest dressers are going to like that longer shorts were also seen on quite a few runways. These are a tiny bit short, but I love that the cut is so different than the typical modest short. Shorts are Walmart (men's), t-shirt, Forever 21; sweater, Target; sunglasses, Topshop.

OUR TAKE ON DVF SPRING '13

Proud to be breaking out some orange in the name of autumn. You guys probably think we're crazy for continually stressing the fact that orange has been very 'in' these last couple of seasons. And we're sure you won't be surprised when we tell you that it was ALL OVER the runways for spring 2013. Yeah no surprise there. Here's our take on an orange and navy pairing seen at Diane Von Furstenburg  2 weeks ago. And if you haven't been able to tell yet, that cuff is quite the favorite of mine at the moment. People are rarely seeing me without it these days.  Top, thrifted; pants, H&M; bag, Aldo; shoes, Chinese Laundry.

The Grotto Concert

The River Trip (to the Grotto)
 Arches

Ok So I'm not going to lie. I packed horribly for this trip to Moab. Here I thought I was doing so well too! I realized I had nothing other than my jean cut offs (how did this happen?) and a white pair of shorts for multiple occasions. I thought I dressed well for one of the evening concerts (in a theater), but when I showed up, I realized I was OVERLY dressed...it's MOAB gosh dang it (one day we'll have to show you what I wore though...it was very much inspired by Dolce and Gabbana...but I digress). Back to the jean cut offs...they were definitely getting old by the end of the trip. On the early, cold (let's don't forget that) - morning of the hummer tour I asked my sister what she was wearing, "jeans." My text back to her consisted of "good gosh I didn't even bring any long pants!" So she ended up looking all cute and I looked like I only brought one pair of pants (which was pretty close to being accurate). OK and then there was the fedora. I knew we'd be doing crazy things and instead of just pinning my hair back, I decided "hey! the hat will just cover the mess." I ended up at the Grotto concert (a REALLY cool natural amphitheater on the Colorado river) wearin' my trusty hat. Well, after the concert it was time for...you guessed it, pictures. Not just any pictures either; pictures with notable people (like Leonard Bernstein's daughter, the heads of Steinway and Sons, the founders of the Moab Music festival, and a particular shot with Juilliard musicians that was supposedly getting sent to the heads of The Juilliard School). And guess what...I frantically pulled off my hat, got right in my sister's face and said..."hair?" Her reply face said it all. The hat went back on. And so, there is a cute little fedora that made it into every more official picture that day. So it pains me to include more pictures of jean cut offs and fedoras, but alas, it was the Moab uniform.

OUR TAKE ON ROCHAS RESORT 2013

You saw us post about Rochas Resort and now you get to see how the final dress (here) was obviously a direct inspiration to this look of ours. We loved the cream t-shirt under the black that we couldn't wait to recreate it ourselves. Although we think this works best with strapless dresses, we created our look with a black tube top, black full skirt and cream t-shirt (if you're using a tube top, like we did, make sure whatever is on bottom matches the top so it looks like one complete dress). So many modest dressers pair their tank tops and spaghetti strap dresses with t-shirts underneath, and we have to admit we don't really love the look. But somehow we think the strapless dress with the t-shirt works well (we also LOVE using sweetheart necklines). We've seen it done multiple places over the last few seasons with dresses similar to Rochas. We'll give you an example with this dress from Temperley London. You can totally recreate the idea with this awesome peplum dress paired with this ivory t-shirt. Think of the possibilities! Here are the specifics of our look: J. Crew belt, Tiffany chain bracelet,  H&M skirt (older), Shade tee, Michael Kors shoes, and Aldo bag.

THE PREPSTER

A suburbia park day calls for some preppy clothes (we thinks). How about a cable knit sweater over some denim? And we all know how khaki automatically seems to make most anything just a tad bit more prep. Hair's a mess, but it's all right, it's just the park. Sweater and shirt are thrifted, skirt is H&M, boat shoes Forever 21, glasses Topshop, and Target bag. We think it's about time to start breaking out the lighter sweaters again....

FNO SLC 2012 - WHAT WE WORE

<

So you've seen a little bit of the Fashion Night Out SLC event held this past weekend in the form of some street style we shot, but now you get to see what we were wearing. Melody decided to go on trend from the fall runways by wearing navy with a a peplum. We talked about how we were inspired by the Valentino navy seen here and the peplum look seen here, and now you get to see the finished look. Although this appears to be one complete dress, it has two different elements. The underneath layer is a blue vintage sheath dress, while the over zipper peplum jacket is from Forever 21's past higher end line (which seems to have disappeared ).  We finished the look with Nine West heels, H&M clutch and Forever 21 bangles.

WHAT WE WORE - NYFW SS13

Here's what Desirae wore while at Fashion week. She decided to keep it simple since many people almost look like they're wearing costumes. So here she is in rich, deep colors of blue and green. She broke out her trusty herring bone jacket since the cool breezes are again settling into the city.  And we've never mentioned this before, but you can tell against her green pants that her wedding ring consists of an emerald. We say it's the perfect accessory to her aquarium colored look. (p.s. from what we're seeing coming out of NY for spring, bright colors are not going ANYWHERE....)

OUR TAKE ON DIOR RESORT

This outfit was directly inspired by the Christian Dior Resort 2013 collection which we showed you here. Although what Dior has pictured is much more stunning in the red tulle and monochrome colored jacket, we loved the basic shape of the outfit and therefore used it in our look.  Although his was used for next year's resort, we couldn't resist starting now with the look. Of course the belted jacket we'll use all through fall (so you'll definitely be seeing that a lot more from us), but we do feel that this outfit would make the perfect spring look (which we'll see what the designers give us next week with the onslaught of NY fashion week and the ensuing fashion month to follow). So with a slight look forward to spring, we'll start to say goodbye to summer. Sadly all of this outfit is formed out of clothing from seasons past with an H&M skirt, H&M jacket, ballroom-esque pewter shoes, and J. Crew pewter belt. But don't dismay...Ebay usually has some great 50's length skirts in their arsenol....

SIMPLY CASUAL

Just a simple outfit here. Grey linen skirt, white button down, textured bag and red sailor flats. Most of these elements you've seen before in different pairings. You also can see our trusty blanket that seems to make it into many of our adventures. This was one of those idyllic summer evenings where you have the perfect sunset as you're playing frisbee on what seems like the top of the world at this particular park. All you need is a good peach or juicy watermelon and the memory is set. We're sure you all have had similar moments this year....

SHEEPDOG CHAMPIONSHIPS

To Celebrate the start of our holiday weekend, Melody attended the International Sheepdog Championships in Soldier Hollow on Saturday. When she heard about it she couldn't resist something so foreign in nature, so made the trip out to see what it was all about. The event included sheepdogs herding flocks of sheep through a course for the fastest time under 13 minutes. At the end of the course the shepherd would step in barely to help things along and we were all biting our nails as we hoped some of the dogs could get all the sheep in the pen with some 30 seconds left. In other words, we were watching "Babe" the pig movie in real life.  There were also side shows to the main event that included a show called "Dazzle Dogs," made up of dancing and semi acrobatic dogs; "Splash Dogs," dogs that would jump into a fairly large pool for the greatest distance (baited by their favorite doggie toy thrown in before them) and of course the food and drinks were a side show all their own (namely the homemade rootbeer sold in their own bottles).

A tricky event to dress for with all the fluctuating weather (from heat and sun, to eventual rain and cool), Melody chose to wear her lightweight navy blue chino trousers with military green shirt over top (inspiration here).  However there was a part of her that wished she had some cool rain boots like the girl pictured above. The necklace pictured is a christmas gift from her husband made from a broken piece of the famed Mata Ortiz pottery (that the two of them are a little obsessive over). The sandals and glasses are Forever 21. Overall we say if you ever have the chance to go and see something like this, you should. It's definitely something you'll never forget. And oh! Since when did the trees start changing colors???
