HAIR

OK guys. Melody's going to do it. It's not a terribly drastic change, but it's still a change. She's cutting some locks before she takes off to Mexico next week. It will be the cut of Alexa Chung up top, with the length of Rose Byrne down below. If anyone thinks she shouldn't do it, speak now or forever hold your peace....

ANJA RUBIK FOR VOGUE JAPAN

All right, you guys saw bits of the Dior Couture collection here, and now you can see some of these beautiful creations in print. Keep in mind the hats are crazy, but we love the full skirts nipped in at the waist. And we have to admit, those sleeves in the looks up top are pretty wonderful. We always love to see when runway looks show up in magazine shoots....

LOOSE WHITE BUTTON DOWN

This look was definitely inspired by one of our favorite street style bloggers Hanneli. We just love how accessible our favorite blogs are for inspiration. We loved the look here so much that we had to recreate it in our own way.  And we're telling you, the looser fitting button down is a must with skinny jeans right now (just check out some of our most recent pins on pinterest). On that note, in case some of you guys missed our tweet and facebook post, we were saying that having something loose on top with something tighter on bottom is a must in our book. If you go tight on bottom (with skirts or pants) and tight on top, you're just too tight. But then the same doesn't necessarily work for the opposite (which we talked about in our trouser post). Right now, loose trousers or a maxi skirt look best with loose on top as well. The key there is to ALWAYS have definition at the waist (whether slightly tucked, belted, etc.). This way you're hopefully always looking effortless and cool (think Zina). So in other words, don't do the skinny skinny....:)

THE REST OF CANNES 2012

Doutzen Kroes in Elie Saab
Alexandra Maria Lara in Elie Saab Couture
diane kruger chanel resort 2013 dress
Diane Kruger in Chanel
Berenice Bejo in Giambattista Valli Couture
Aishwarya Rai in Elie Saab
Kirsten Dunst in Dolce and Gabbana
Diane Kruger in Prabal Gurung
Kylie Minogue in Dolce and Gabbana
Elodie Bouchez in Chanel Couture

Caroline Sieber in Alessandra Rich
Marion Cotillard in Chanel

Reese Witherspoon in Versace

Here are some of the other looks from the Cannes red carpet. I don't think we ever realized how dressy the festival was! Anyway, we were so happy to see Berenice Bejo wear one of our favorite Giambattista Valli gowns (that we posted about here) on the red carpet! You can also see that Elie Saab was EVERYWHERE this year (just look at our other fancy red carpet posts and you'll see Mr Saab's designs all over the place). We also think Diane Kruger was consistently awesome throughout the festival. The Chanel look (near the top) was seriously RIGHT off the runway. The Chanel Resort 2013 collection showed while Cannes was going on. So everyone was way surprised to see her wearing one of the looks a few days later. Not to mention the collection seemed a bit crazy (some people were saying it was as if Marie Antoinette were to go on a cruise) but then again, we've been surprised when other seemingly unwearable collections show up on the red carpet and they look awesome.

Well there you have it! Here's our official goodbye to Cannes for this year!

MEMORIAL DAY FASHION

The Thunderbirds
The Crowd
The WWII Mustang (P51)

Is there a better way to celebrate Memorial Day than at an airshow? We think not. The outfit up top is what I partially wore on Saturday. "Partially" because let's just say I was SUPER lucky to have left all of my ski clothes in the car. It was FREEZING and ended up pouring rain in the middle of the show. So luckily my trusty ski coat came in handy. At the very end of the day the sun came back out and my outfit was again visible. The grey motorcycle jacket is an old favorite of mine from H&M, the jeans are an even older favorite of mine from Nordstrom that were so comfortable I finally had to retire them because of the holes (but if you follow us on twitter, you might have seen that I brought them out of retirement because I'm loving their rips as of late).
Apart from fashion, we've always talked about how interesting it is to be a part of a big crowd. How many interesting faces (not to mention clothing) can be found. Since it was pretty dang cold, you'll see lots of blankets and sweatshirts (not to mention the snuggie thrown in there). But I guess it was especially fun to see the way kids reacted to the amazing planes in the sky. There was a sense of pride from parents in bringing their kids to see one of man's greatest feats. And you know what? I was almost on the brink of tears when the music to "Band of Brothers" came over the speakers as the Thunderbirds (pictured up top) landed. I don't often gush patriotism, but sometimes a holiday like memorial day will bring it out. So welcome to the season of the red, white and blue, fireworks, barbecues, sparklers, sprinklers and pools. We're ready!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

CANNES 2012 HIGHLIGHT - Tilda Swinton

Tilda has chosen her go to designer Haider Ackermann in both looks here. She has had quite the history with the designer in looks like this, this and this to show just a few of the myriads. She even showed up with him (which she does quite often) at the Chanel Cruise collection held during the Cannes. We've always admired Tilda's fearless, often menswear inspired, style. She's definitely got a look that no one else in Hollywood has. It's strong and edgy but somehow always "Tilda." It's funny how we can't even look at Ackermann's lines these days and not see Tilda. It definitely has come to define the collections to a certain extent....
