VOGUE: 10 BEST DRESSED

We were more than a little surprised when we saw Vogue's 10 best dressed for this past week. Seven out of the ten we would consider to be pretty modest (we've seen the girl at the end before, and as was noted before, she could use a slip, but otherwise we were pretty satisfied). Obviously some we like better than others, but we figured we'd let you view the 7 images. We both saw Vogue's list separately; when one of us brought it up for a post, the other had already written it down to use. So we were definitely on the same wave length. But ultimately, what we really enjoyed was Vogue's synopsis for the week...
"While the current street-style trends may lead one to believe that, in fashion, the bigger and more outrageous, the better, what we found this week was quite the opposite. When it comes to modern dressing, to be truly groundbreaking, the forward-thinking woman knows it's all about two very important things: keeping it simple and being yourself."

We couldn't have said it better.

JULIANNE MOORE IN TOM FORD - Happy St. Patrick's!

We figured in honor of the day, we'd give you some green and gold! Tom Ford definitely knows how to keep us on our toes regarding his women's wear line that he just started a year and a half ago. We can view the Spring and Summer collections online but no one has been able to glimpse the Fall collection that he showed privately this past month. Some are wondering if he's using celebrities to gradually show the collection since we saw Gwyneth at the Academy Awards wear his favorite of the collection and now we've seen Jenniffer Lawrence in a black dress from the same line at the Hunger Games premiere in Paris. Although his green dress here is rather low cut, we couldn't resist putting it up here for you guys today. Happy St. Patrick's!

ALL IN A DAY - The Duchess

We know the days where you're due in the morning for some specific event, the afternoon for a completely different affair and the evening for something more formal. How in the world do you make it all work? Well we thought Kate did a pretty good job in her transition from playing field hockey with the Olympic team, to giving interviews afterward, to looking completely polished later in the afternoon for a gallery event. For the gallery stroll, she put her coral skinnies away and donned a more proper dress (by the designer Orla Kiely which is probably sold out by now) and surprisingly went without her nude stockings. Many people have commented lately about the role of pantyhose in politics (mentioning Kate along the way), so it's definitely made mention when she goes without them. All in all, we loved her coral skinnies which went from dressed down to more dressed up pretty easily. And since one of us owns a similar military jacket to the one she threw over her t-shirt, we can tell you how it makes a casual outfit into something more dressy pretty easily. And there you have it...a day in the life of Kate.

TEAL AND BLACK - Jason Wu inspired

When we saw The Jason Wu Pre-Fall line we fell in love. We know Spring is definitely springing around us, but we have a couple of looks we still want to share with you that are inspired by the 2012 fall and pre-fall lines of our favorite designers. We loved the combo of teal and black found in the Jason Wu collection that we couldn't help but recreate a look around it. You can view the looks that inspired us here and here. Don't you just love them? Also, evidently we're not the only ones loving the color combo...The Duchess has sported a similar look herehere and here. And you might ask why so many things are being belted these days? It's because the peplum created by the belting is huge right now (we'll show you in a future post).
(Blouse and accessories are Forever 21, skirt is vintage, belt is Urban Outfitters, shoes are Steve Madden.)

MODEST LOOKBOOK - Erin Fetherston

Erin Fetherston is an indie designer that has definitely put out some beautiful collections in her short career (pretty dresses are obviously her specialty). But we weren't aware of her designs until Vogue just recently highlighted a book of photography by Claibourne Swanson Frank called "American Beauty." In it Erin was highlighted as one of the women who possessed what the photographer called "a blend of grit, grace, glamour, and gravitas." We fell in love with not only this photograph, but her beautiful design in it. Hopefully she'll implement more looks like this in her future collections. Love.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

It was said that Mulberry's Fall 2012  line was inspired by the children's book "Where the Wild Things are." This look of ours also fits into that category. It's a look of fur against color; vibrant brights against duller colored textures.  So next time when you're thinking about what to pair with your tweeds or faux fur elements, think of pops of rich color - golds, purples, burnt oranges and blues. Really, just think of the illustrations from Where the Wild Things Are.
