TEAL AND BLACK - Jason Wu inspired

When we saw The Jason Wu Pre-Fall line we fell in love. We know Spring is definitely springing around us, but we have a couple of looks we still want to share with you that are inspired by the 2012 fall and pre-fall lines of our favorite designers. We loved the combo of teal and black found in the Jason Wu collection that we couldn't help but recreate a look around it. You can view the looks that inspired us here and here. Don't you just love them? Also, evidently we're not the only ones loving the color combo...The Duchess has sported a similar look herehere and here. And you might ask why so many things are being belted these days? It's because the peplum created by the belting is huge right now (we'll show you in a future post).
(Blouse and accessories are Forever 21, skirt is vintage, belt is Urban Outfitters, shoes are Steve Madden.)

MODEST LOOKBOOK - Erin Fetherston

Erin Fetherston is an indie designer that has definitely put out some beautiful collections in her short career (pretty dresses are obviously her specialty). But we weren't aware of her designs until Vogue just recently highlighted a book of photography by Claibourne Swanson Frank called "American Beauty." In it Erin was highlighted as one of the women who possessed what the photographer called "a blend of grit, grace, glamour, and gravitas." We fell in love with not only this photograph, but her beautiful design in it. Hopefully she'll implement more looks like this in her future collections. Love.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

It was said that Mulberry's Fall 2012  line was inspired by the children's book "Where the Wild Things are." This look of ours also fits into that category. It's a look of fur against color; vibrant brights against duller colored textures.  So next time when you're thinking about what to pair with your tweeds or faux fur elements, think of pops of rich color - golds, purples, burnt oranges and blues. Really, just think of the illustrations from Where the Wild Things Are.

While taking part in the blogging world you tend to find more bloggers that have similar aesthetics as you. It's nice to see that they too are making choices that help others feel comfortable in their standards of dress. And of course it helps to see what others are doing outside of our own blog. Obviously we take inspiration from the biggest blogs out there (think The Sartorialist, All the Pretty Birds, etc...) but we'd also like to show you two others that we like to check in on as well. Rachel over at The Pink Peonies has been a fun find for us. We found her through her pretty images that filter through Pinterest. Elaine over at Clothed Much you've heard us talk about. She highlighted us on her blog a while back and ever since we've enjoyed viewing her clothing decisions. So there ya go! Thanks girls for giving everyone the images and 'how to' in dressing beautifully.

MODEST LOOK BOOK - Kate Middleton's thrift store dress

We were kind of excited to read this in the Huffington Post yesterday. Since we're huge advocates of vintage dresses (it's what we tend to wear 50% of the time on stage) you can probably guess why we were happy to see we aren't the only ones. We've known for a while that when it comes to finding dresses that are modest, have a runway look, and are well made, shopping vintage and thrifting is the way to go. So is it any wonder that Kate decided the same? She'll probably be gracing these pages quite a bit since she's got such a similar standard in dressing. She definitely makes others realize there are more possibilities out there. Plus, is it any wonder that more wedding dresses are being made with sleeves? She alone will probably change the wedding dress scene since women everywhere have been asking for dresses like her's. So thank you Kate for shaking things up and making modest so cool....

LONG PENCIL SKIRT + STATEMENT SLEEVES

I know it took us a while, but last October we promised we'd show a more lux look implementing the longer pencil skirt. Well here it is! Although fashion moves quickly and we're already onto the lines of Fall 2012, we figured we'd step back to last season (since technically we are still there). We were so inspired by the shapes of Marc Jacobs last season that this outfit has been in our heads for a while waiting to find it's way here. It's funny how I haven't viewed the line since we last wrote about it, but my subconscious recreated the shapes and look down to the last detail. I wondered why when I looked in the mirror, something seemed off.  I took off the tights I was wearing and put on some fishnet stockings and voila! I looked back in the mirror and the outfit looked more complete. It's strange how images stay with you. Hopefully some of ours will inspire you next time you browse through your closets.
By the way, the longer pencil skirt isn't going anywhere. For next fall we saw it paired over and over again with a strong peplum. We'll definitely show you some of that soon....(Skirt H&M, top BCBG, boots Marco Santi)
