MODEST LOOK BOOK - Kate Middleton's thrift store dress

We were kind of excited to read this in the Huffington Post yesterday. Since we're huge advocates of vintage dresses (it's what we tend to wear 50% of the time on stage) you can probably guess why we were happy to see we aren't the only ones. We've known for a while that when it comes to finding dresses that are modest, have a runway look, and are well made, shopping vintage and thrifting is the way to go. So is it any wonder that Kate decided the same? She'll probably be gracing these pages quite a bit since she's got such a similar standard in dressing. She definitely makes others realize there are more possibilities out there. Plus, is it any wonder that more wedding dresses are being made with sleeves? She alone will probably change the wedding dress scene since women everywhere have been asking for dresses like her's. So thank you Kate for shaking things up and making modest so cool....

LONG PENCIL SKIRT + STATEMENT SLEEVES

I know it took us a while, but last October we promised we'd show a more lux look implementing the longer pencil skirt. Well here it is! Although fashion moves quickly and we're already onto the lines of Fall 2012, we figured we'd step back to last season (since technically we are still there). We were so inspired by the shapes of Marc Jacobs last season that this outfit has been in our heads for a while waiting to find it's way here. It's funny how I haven't viewed the line since we last wrote about it, but my subconscious recreated the shapes and look down to the last detail. I wondered why when I looked in the mirror, something seemed off.  I took off the tights I was wearing and put on some fishnet stockings and voila! I looked back in the mirror and the outfit looked more complete. It's strange how images stay with you. Hopefully some of ours will inspire you next time you browse through your closets.
By the way, the longer pencil skirt isn't going anywhere. For next fall we saw it paired over and over again with a strong peplum. We'll definitely show you some of that soon....(Skirt H&M, top BCBG, boots Marco Santi)

PARIS FASHION WEEK FALL 2012 - Street Style

Here are some of our favorite street style photos from Paris Fashion Week (Fall 2012). We'll fill you in on the the shows and collections later (let's just say there was a lot of leather, a lot of black and a lot of layers. You'll definitely see our take on it all eventually). But sometimes we just love to see what people put together on the street (that's including celebrities and models). We're just loving where fashion is at the moment. It's definitely perfect for our modest aesthetic. We can't wait to show you some of our favorite looks from the collections!

All photos are taken from Vogue.com (except for the shot of Mila Kunis)

MODEST LOOKBOOK - Ulyana Sergeenko

This was a beautiful pinterest find of a new Russian designer who just unveiled her second collection for Spring and Summer 2012. You can find her Vogue spread here. We love her old, almost Victorian shapes that are mixed with more contemporary elements like the grey t-shirt shown. Aren't these looks SO beautiful? We are in love....

CHANEL SUIT - (a replica)

Even though this skirt suit was not actually made by Chanel, I was so excited to find two pieces that worked well together and gave off the same look as the pricey Chanel versions. As you can see, the Chanel suit has been around for a while now. It has definitely made its way through many decades since it came on the scene. I like to call this my older lady outfit because I know it looks polished. The statement fur collar is not a new idea either. As you can see here, it too has been around a while. So if something is tried and tested, why not go with it? Jacket is thrifted and skirt is Victoria's Secret.

MODEST LOOKBOOK - Banana Republic Mad Men Collection Spring 2012

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! The Spring collection of Banana Republic's collaboration with the television series is back in business for Spring 2012.  This is pretty fresh news so it's hard to find the lookbook but you can view what's up as of now here. The two of us at thread ethic are a little Mad Men obsessed, so you can see why we get excited about these things (Season 5 starts March 25 [after a nearly two year hiatus]). Although there aren't a lot of more modest looks from the Banana Republic lookbook, we're holding out in hopes that more will emerge. In any case, we're happy to view the looks coming up from the actual show. Yay for Spring!
